We hold our club nights on Friday nights throughout summer (October - April) at our track in Rānui, West Auckland. As BMX is a summer sport, we do not run club nights during the winter months. However, if at all possible we aim to run gates whenever we can to give members the chance to keep riding.
Our club is heavily focused on creating a fun and inclusive family environment where everyone, whether they are a racer, a spectator or one of our vounteers. It is shown in our membership where we have riders 5 years and under, right through to grandparents over 60 all competing both at a club, National and International events.
Our Mum's and Dad's category is one of the biggest groups on a Friday night!
Registration for racing opens from 5:00pm and closes at 6:15pm
During registration, riders are sorted into their ability groups.
Racing starts at approx. 6.30pm, and finishes by approx. 8:00pm
When racing is ready to start all riders will be called to staging (near the start ramp), where they will be called up for their race in their ability groups. Riders names and a lane number are called out for them to move up to the start ramp ready for their race.
We generally start from the youngest riders and work up to the older riders. After 4 races we have a short break to present Rider of the Night and re-group for the final.
Following the presentation of the Rider of the Night, any younger riders that need to head off to bed are able to head home. For anyone else keen to still ride we will run a 5th moto, after which the track is usually ridden till 9:30pm by riders practicing their skills.
For new riders to the sport we offer the first 3 club nights free to enable them to experience BMX racing with other people and see if they wish to continue.
New riders are allowed to ride as a casual rider for up to 3 weeks, after which you must become a full member to continue racing. This is a condition of our affiliation to BMXNZ.
To cater for the younger age of Striders (riders under the age of 5 with no pedals on their bikes) we start their racing before the older riders.
We group all the Striders together and they have 3 races around half the track. If required a parent or caregiver can run alongside them.
All other riders are grouped against other riders of a similar age and skill level with a maximum of 8 riders in a race.
Racing takes around 60-90 mins with all riders getting to race 5 times each night,
We have a limited amount of hire gear available during our Thursday training sessions and for our Friday club nights so you don't have to go out and spend money before committing to the sport. The hire shed opens at 5:00 pm on Thursdays and 5.30 pm on Fridays.
During our Friday club nights we operate a canteen which has a range of food and drinks available. Items for sale include water, soft drinks, hot chips, burgers, hot dogs, lollies, ice-blocks and more.
With a number of Coeliac volunteers, we even cater for the Gluten Free out there with a specific deep fryer to ensure our chips are good to go!
The WTK Canteen is run 100% by volunteers who also have children & partners riding. Please respect the guidelines above and if you wish to volunteer please speak to one of our friendly canteen team, or email us.
